Kindness Illuminated

In route to the panhandle of Florida, we frequently stop in Prattville, Alabama. It has always been a nice place to stop but on this particular day, a lovely lady, Christina, who works the front desk of the Holiday Inn went above and beyond.

During a busy morning time, I approached her explaining that my room did not have a blow dryer. I told her that I had my husband double check because I have been known to not see things that are there.

She was unable to get housekeeping on the phone so she kindly handed me a blow dryer from the back.

With wet hair I expressed gratitude because I did need the help, for my hair was a hot mess. She smiled at my joke.

Proceeding to my room, I returned to my plan of getting ready. Then I saw that doggone blow dryer on the wall… what is the world is wrong with my mind! And my husband’s too?

Covid! I’m blaming Covid! I wonder if she will accept that excuse, so I decided to ask her. When returning the dryer, my mind created the dialogue to apologize and blame Covid.

As I approached Christina with the dryer in hand, I inquired…

Can we continue to blame Covid for doing stupid things?

She granted me permission…

Embarrassed, I admitted to discovering the blow dryer attached to the wall in the bathroom, right where it would naturally be located.

And then she said… girl, when you mentioned you asked your husband to double check I knew you were in trouble… a man?… seriously???!!!

That’s when she chose to just go back and retreive the blow dryer and send me on my way.

She said she knew that blow dryer was on the wall but didn’t want to call me out. She figured that if I was asking a man to find something, I just wasn’t working in my right mind.

Isn’t that something?

She practiced kindness when I added to her workload. She became concerned about me when I asked my husband to double check!

We all need women like that in our lives!

She didn’t even know me, but she cared for me in loving kindness! I’m so glad I saw the blowdryer and admitted my error. It allowed me to see her unselfish act of which I may have otherwise missed.

Christina, I hope my eyes are opened to see those opportunities like you did! Thank you, my friend! Your action has expanded my thinking!

I appreciate you!

Stay blessed ya all!
